HARVEST - Sunday 24th October 2021

St Stephen’s welcomed our new vicar, Rev Jude Bevan, to her first service with us for our celebration of Harvest.

Harvest Festival was an informal ‘Café Style’ family service, with coffee, pastries and cakes being served at the start of the service. Our gifts of dried packet, tin food and toiletries were offered to God with grateful thanks. These will then be delivered to the Night Shelter in Colchester to feed the homeless.

During our service we sang songs with actions and the children completed a craft activity to take home. Some members of the congregation took part in a dramatised reading of the ‘Feeding of the Five thousand’ in costume, whilst the remaining members of the congregation were encouraged to participate with ‘crowd responses’ from cue cards! We had a quiz following the reading with sweets for those who had correctly remembered details of the story – many hands went up with the promise of chocolate!

Our new vicar engaged us in a lively and enjoyable service and at the end it was good to catch up in conversation with our friends and neighbours.

You would be most welcome to join us next time – see the Sunday Service rota.
