The weather forecast for the day had been for heavy showers throughout, so we were not too hopeful for many visitors this year and knew people would be disappointed if the tower remained closed. However, the weather stayed dry until the last half hour and the tower was open all day! A total of thirty-two people visited St Stephen’s to explore the history and take in the views.
Last year the Chancel had been closed due to refurbishment, but this year people had the opportunity to see the results of months of work by our skilled stonemason. There was a PowerPoint presentation on a loop showing the progress of the work undertaken in the Chancel.

Our history panels, as usual, were on display and our knowledgeable churchwarden was on hand to answer questions about the architecture of the building and the stained-glass windows.
New kneelers for the bride and groom at weddings are currently under construction. Work on these was in progress during the day, definitely a labour of love!

By the time people had read all the information on offer and climbed the tower to take in the views, refreshment was the order of the day.
A welcome cup of tea or coffee and some cake fitted the bill!
